"The great escape" from antiaromaticity: reduction of strained pyrenes.

چکیده
The two-electron reduction of strained pyrenes ([7](2,7)pyrenophanes) with lithium metal leads to the formation of a new sigma-bond as a means to "escape" strained antiaromaticity.

Reductive dimerization of tethered pyrenes: implications for the reduction of polcyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
The reduction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with alkali metals can, in some cases, afford a reductive dimerization process. This process takes place in systems that have the capability of forming a stable anionic subunit and concentrating a high electron density on a specific carbon atom, which will eventually form a new s bond.[1] Such behavior has been recently reported in the re...
متن کاملAntiaromaticity and reactivity of a planar cyclooctatetraene fully annelated with bicyclo[2.1.1]hexane units.
A detailed investigation has been made into the antiaromaticity and chemical reactivity of a planar cyclooctatetraene (COT) molecule fully annelated with bicyclo[2.1.1]hexane units 2. In spite of its planar 8pi-electronic structure, theoretical calculations have indicated that the antiaromaticity of COT 2 is considerably decreased in comparison with a planar COT 16 with D 4h symmetry. This beha...
متن کاملReduction of strained polycycles: how much strain can a pyrene anion take?
The reduction of a series of [n](2,7)pyrenophanes (n = 7-10) with lithium or potassium metal shows that the strain in the system, controlled by the length of the tether, determines the nature of the reduction products. The reduction of [7](2,7)pyrenophane (2) and [2]metacyclo[2](2,7)pyrenophane (3) leads to reductive dimerization followed by novel intramolecular sigma-bond formation as a means ...
متن کاملReduction of benzylidene dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptenes: over-reduction of antiaromatic dianions to aromatic tetraanions.
The antiaromaticity of a series of dianions of p-substituted benzylidene dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptenes was examined through calculated measures of antiaromaticity. The nucleus-independent chemical shifts (NICS) and magnetic susceptibility exaltation both showed substantial antiaromatic character in the benzannulated tropylium anion. When the antiaromaticity was normalized for the area of the ring, ...
متن کاملReduction of Aflatoxin M1 during Production of Kashk, a Traditional Iranian Dairy Product
Background: Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is a toxic compound that could be found in milk and dairy products. AFM1 is the principle hydroxylated derivative of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), formed in liver and excreted into the milk in the mammary glands of both human and lactating animals that have been fed with AFB1 contaminated diet. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report on stability of AFM1 during p...
